[FOR LAST YEAR--PLEASE DISREGARD] Scripture Reflection Questions: Lk 17-Jn 21

1. Read Lk 17:1-2. Reflect a minute on what ways you contribute to leading others to sin. Then write here a little prayer from your heart asking forgiveness. (You don't need to write the details of the sins on the blog! Save it for Confession :)

2. 17: 11-19. Only 1 of ten lepers return to thank Jesus. Recall something Jesus healed or accomplished in your life, that you may have forgotten to thank Him for, and give thanks by writing out now a little prayer of thanksgiving.

3. 19:41. What was it that made Jesus cry?

4. Who is the story of the seven brothers (Lk 20:27-40) directed at? What is Jesus proving by his response?

5. 22:20: "This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood." JESUS'S BLOOD!? Why would JESUS become the sacrificial "animal" to ratify/complete the New Covenant?

6. Read again 24:13-35, the Road to Emmaus. How did they recognize Jesus? What were they DOING when they recognized Him?

7. Write out and memorize Jn 1:1.

8. At what point in the Mass does the priest quote John the Baptist's words in Jn 1:29?

9. Mary says to the Servants at the wedding feast at Cana: "Do whatever He tells you." What do YOU sense the Lord Jesus is telling you to do, in terms of your own life's calling or vocation? Why do you think He may be calling you there?

10. Write out and memorize Jn 3:16. This is one of the most quoted bible verses in human history. How many google hits if you type in "Jn 3:16"? What does this tell you?

11. 4:7. Jesus asks the Samaritan woman for a drink. Clearly this is an absurdity in His culture then. Imagine asking a street beggar to buy you a soda. Tell me--why might the beggar actually APPRECIATE you asking??? Think about it.

12. See Jn 6, verse 66. Many of his disciples left Jesus over His "Bread of life Discourse", where He teaches the truth about the Eucharist as His Body and Blood. Why didn't He go back and stop those who were leaving Him? Would you have classified Jesus as "lunatic" and left Him too? Why or why not.

13. What are things you have been realizing about John's Gospel, as compared to the Synoptics?

14. See Jn 10:30: "I and the Father are one." That is, of the same "stuff"--both the Father and the Son are the One GOD. But now read Jn 14:28 "The Father is greater than I." WHAT GIVES??? What could explain this apparent contradiction???

15. From Jn 10:10 "I came that you might have life, and have it to the full." But so often we feel that if we truly follow Jesus, we will have to "give up" this or that, or not have as much fun, etc. Do you think Jesus is lying? Do you think perhaps our perspective is off? Explain.

16. Protestants often ask if we have accepted Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior. I encourage you to do just that. But also, from Jn 19, 27: "Then he said to the disciple: 'Behold, your Mother!' And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home." That disciple was John, who is an image of every Christian disciple. What does this tell us about every follower of Christ? What relationship with Mary should every follower of Christ have?
